Election FAQ

Serving on the PMI Arizona Chapter Board of Directors takes time and dedication, but it is not without its rewards.

Board Members:

• Further, the development and advancement of the project management profession in Arizona.
• Opportunities for career visibility and leadership growth.
• Opportunity to expand your network and knowledge with other professionals.
• Access to the best practices and trends in project management.
• Have a voice in the strategic direction of the chapter.
• Earn PDUs: serve as an elected volunteer officer for a project management organization, including PMI chapters, for a minimum of 3 months

 Below are some general time commitment details, but the efforts required vary slightly by role.

• Required Training: PMI Leadership Online Training Modules (6-8 hours within the first month)
• Meetings: 
  • Virtual board meetings year-round (typically, two evenings per month for operations and executive meetings) 
  • Four (4) in-person board meetings annually
• Engagement: Take the initiative for your responsibilities and complete role-related objectives (typically 3-5 hours per week)
• Event Participation: Do your best to attend as many of our events as possible to provide support and represent the board

Your commitment plays a crucial role in driving the success of our chapter, and we take it very seriously. While the time requirements can be challenging at times, your effort will have a direct impact on the value we provide to our membership. Please keep this in mind when applying for a Board role. 

The documents linked below outline the expectations and duties of the Board of Directors. We recommend that you review the documents before nominating yourself or others for the role.

We will be looking for leaders to join our dynamic team to serve starting in 2027. The nominations process will start June 22, look for more details coming soon.  

The current open board positions are:

• Secretary (2 years)
• Board Director (2 years, duties determined by the board)

In order to run in the election, a nominee must:

• Be an active Arizona Chapter member at the time of election
• Receive at least three nominations
• Agree to serve in the position for which he or she is nominated
• Any Chapter member in good standing may nominate another member
• A Chapter member may nominate they or themselves as one of the three nominations
• The Chair-Elect must have served 6 months as a PMI® Board member within the last two years prior to taking office.
• Nominations are submitted by an e-form, which will be opened during the nomination process window.  See the timeline below for the dates.

Call for nominations for 2027 elections taking place in 2026:

• Nominations Committee evaluates and interviews the nominees July through August 2026. 
• Evaluation may include the following: Nominee’s agreement to be on ballot, resume submission, leadership questionnaire to be filled/submitted
• Interview with Nominations Committee
• Nominations Committee confirms nominees end of August 2026
• Confirmed nominees will be given the option to create a video for the ballot announcement - first week of September 2026
• Ballot announcement - early September 2026
• Nominees will be introduced in a chapter meeting and/or via email.. 
• Elections open - September 12
• Elections close - September 28
• Results announced - October 1
• In-person board meeting including newly-elected board - November 7
• Transition Period for Outgoing Board to Incoming Board - October through December

All Arizona chapter members will receive an email with voting instructions when the election opens.  The email will contain a link to the online ballot, allowing you to log in and vote.  The email will be sent to the primary email address in your PMI.org profile.
